What is a BuJo?

The Bullet Journal is a unique journaling system designed to help you organize your life, much like a planner does, but in a more personalized way. There’s no right or wrong way to go about it, and as most bullet journalers will tell you, all you really need to start is a notebook and a pen. The rest is up to you!

Why should I bullet journal?

For some people, stopping off at a local Target and picking up a nifty little planner is enough to keep them on track and organized. But for others, there’s just something missing between those pre-printed, all-too-perfect pages that keeps us from ever using a planner.

From the moment you crack the spine of a blank notebook, a number of possibilities will have opened up to you (pun completely intended). From documenting your day to making a comprehensive list of crystals you want spread around your home, the list truly goes on and on.

Speaking from personal experience, my own bullet journal has not only helped me get more organized, it has helped me to become more motivated, keep track of my path with the Craft, and helped me tackle every day struggles of anxiety and depression. Making lists really works, and an artistic element adds a meditative vibe to your journaling experience.

I’ve got a notebook and pen…what’s next?

In theory, you could just dive right in and start planning your current week, but there are some tips and tricks to help keep your bullet journal more organized and efficient.

Let’s start off with execution. Especially for beginners, keeping your journal simple is almost essential. It can be really tempting to try out elaborate fonts, add doodles and stickers, or even copy another person’s BuJo work. The problem with this is you won’t know what your own unique bullet journal style is until you’ve endured a few trials and many errors. Think of it this way – just like your Craft, bullet journaling is a journey which no other person can be a part of but you. Take your time!

Pages to get you started:

🖋

Key

🖋

Index
🖋

Future Log

The Future Log isn’t for everyone, but these three pages will help tremendously in the long run. The Key acts as a reminder for what different bullet points in your day to day tasks mean, the Index holds the page numbers of every collection you decide to document, and the Future Log is an overview of your year (or the amount of time you want to document for the journal).

From here you can personalize your BuJo however you’d like. Make calendars, keep track of weekly events and make lists to your heart’s content.
