August 26th, 2018: Full Moon in Pisces/Mars Direct. “Things that were, things that are, and some things that have not yet come to pass…”

Hello hello, Witchy Tumblr! We’ve been assailed on all fronts by the astrological weather this summer. We’ve faced an unreal amount of eclipses, retrogrades, and other celestial events from out of left field-but here’s where we can finally catch a break! The beginning of Virgo season provides us reprieve with a full moon in order to close out the month of August. It’ll give us time to organize ourselves before the onslaught of squares and oppositions coming to test us this fall and winter. And the restoration of progress as the planets stop their retrograding bullshit.

Esoterically-speaking, full moons embody the ideas of harvests, creative outpourings, and completions. They’re times of high illumination where truths hidden in shadow are now being revealed to our conscious mind for analysis. Full moons also bring to culmination anything that was born underneath the previous new moon. If I’m not mistaken here, the previous new moon we had was a (partial) solar eclipse. So this full moon should be ripening and bringing to fruition the unconscious desires that the Leo solar eclipse seeded in our minds. Try to think back to two weeks ago. What were you doing then? What are you doing now? Has anything significant changed? By answering these questions for ourselves, we can further divinate what this full moon will bring to the battering plate.

Anyways, let’s look at the details, shall we?

**This full moon will occur at 4:56 am PST and 7:56 am EST. So set your alarms and your coffee pots to timed brew if you plan to show up for this one.**

We got two really interesting trines happening during this lunar event. A small trine between Uranus, Saturn, and the Moon in Pisces. And a B I G B O I trine between Uranus, Saturn, and the Sun in Virgo. These trines combine together in order to form what’s called a “kite” in astrology. When a kite pattern is present, it’s usually indicative of a time of high energy where creative growth and change can occur. Usually these changes are accompanied by an underlying current of pure destiny. We can feel almost fated or driven to some ends by the Powers That Be. For good or ill tidings. Remember to exercise that sweet, sweet free will of yours because a kite isn’t so much a cage you’re stuck in but a paradox puzzle the Universe is asking you to solve. If you don’t like what’s being dished out to you by life, you have a golden opportunity to transform your circumstances entirely through the power of a kite pattern. How lucky for us that we’re receiving one for this upcoming full moon!

Unlike the intense juju of this summer, this kite pattern that the full moon is starring in will be waaaaaaaay more relaxed, and downtempo. Why so, you ask? Well, it’s partially due to it being officially Virgo season. Virgo sun energy is a quiet, precise, and analytical. While summer is still in full swing, autumn is right behind the corner, so Virgo season is traditionally a time to take stock of what the year has brought us so far. To separate the fine from the gross. But to be honest, the main contributor of this chillax vibe on the full moon will be that B I G B O I trine. It’s actually called a “Grand Earth Trine” as all of it’s component planets are sitting in the signs of Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo. This “Grand Earth Trine” will call us to our neglected body’s attention. We might find ourselves more concerned with napping than doing anything incredibly taxing. We’ll be prone to taking it easy. A Grand Earth Trine, like it’s namesake, brings along with it an adherence to our material needs. To sensuality. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you use the full moon to binge on Netflix and tacos the whole night. It adds +15 points to our instinctual knowing. So if you’ve been ignoring how stressed you’ve become recently, this Earth Grand Trine on the full moon will not only provide a breather for self-care, but push you to take it up on it’s offer. The Earth Grand Trine extending to the Virgo Sun insists that you get grounded in reality.

Herein lies the aforementioned paradox of this kite, the metaphorical rub that we’re being asked to solve lest fated events overtake us: How do we nurture our body’s needs when our spiritual needs are so wound tight?!

The same two planets in bed with the Virgo sun (forging the Grand Earth Trine) are ALSO in bed with the Pisces moon, opposite the chart, and creating a trine of it’s very own. Eerily, it’s as if you’re Frodo being tempted by Galadriel’s Mirror while the whole Fellowship of the Ring around you is asleep. And seemingly inactive.

“What will I see?” You ask the moon suspiciously.

And moon responds back, a Mona Lisa smile painted on it’s lunar lips: “Even the wisest cannot tell. For the mirror…shows many things…”

While the sun is screaming at you to relax a little and take stock of your life, the moon is pulling at you to dive headlong into the astral. To seek the answers. Forgetting the material completely in lieu of ten thousand worlds of fantasy that all show you something different about yourself. It might seem like you’re decompressing via your favorite television series or book and doing nothing in particular…but deep within, underneath the surface of appearance, you are very active. You’re playing out alternate reality after alternate reality, scenario after scenario, within your fertile imagination. Trying so hard and desperately to find your best path into the future….and truest self. The one we lost sight of during this hard summer of retrogrades, oppositions, squares, and eclipses (basically no, no, no, and NO.) We want to be immersed, dissolved, and released in our dreams yet our physical forms are reminding us, in no uncertain terms, that the darker months are coming. And that we need to gather ourselves for round-two-fight of the next astrological onslaught during Scorpio and Sagittarius season. How do we both stay grounded in the “real world” yet connected to the spiritual world? How can we possibly do both?

Our bodies are at ease but our spirits remain restless. We want to put our energy into that which isn’t quite here in this world.

Things complicate with Venus in Libra opposing a retrograding Pluto in Capricorn. Aaaand…Jupiter in Scorpio is squaring our whole kite pattern scenario! So the Universe is challenging our obsessive attachments, our resistance to change the oppressive conditions of our relationships (financial or otherwise), and how we’ve been avoiding doing our shadow work. For those of us who haven’t avoided their inner darkness, this square, and opposition should actually provide an intense, fate-breaking catalyst. As long as you rise to the occasion. As long as you take these challenging aspects in this full moon’s astrology as a means to develop yourself. Even if it involves delving into a hall of fun house mirrors which show you the things you’d rather not see. With Jupiter in 16 degrees of Scorpio, the reward of this fate-breaker energy will only be given unto you if you can face that mirrored fun house, and take it as an opportunity instead of a curse. You might get a really epic personal revelation out of it! One that sets you free.

Fortunately for us, we have the trines themselves working in our favor during the full moon. Trines are the harmonic melodies in the symphony of our solar system. They’re benevolent triangle-shaped structures that the planets make when they finally agree on something in particular! They are blessed Dorito chips. And the flavor for our chips on the 26th are Saturn and Uranus. Which is super odd but also super interesting because these two planets don’t normally agree on anything. Like traditionally ever. Saturn represents the rigid structure of limitations in reference to time, karma, and responsibility. Uranus likes to come unexpectedly and kick that structure over. Imagine one kid named Saturn is building a sand castle meticulously. When it’s built to Saturn’s specifications, imagine another kid named Uranus coming out of nowhere to strike that sand castle down. It’s the Tigger and Rabbit dynamic of the Winnie the Pooh fandom. Except this time, Tigger isn’t bouncing on Rabbit’s garden, he’s helping Rabbit his plant carrot seeds. The quirky planet of destruction and genius will be assisting the planet of structure as it rebuilds the sand castles of our lives. This energy might manifest in making adjustments or alterations in your day to day routine that feels totally old hat. Like we’ve done this before. And we probably have in one way or another, either in this life, or our past lives. With the Saturn/Uranus trine helping us, the change we’ve been desperate for will happen organically, and without much effort on our part.

But if you’re still having trouble solving the paradox between your earthly and spiritual functions, the Universe has worked in some little clues.

Besides the two trines (Dorito chips) forming an astrological kite pattern in the sky, we have the presence of two fixed stars, and what’s called a “Yod”. Most often nicknamed “The finger of God”. Those readers who’ve been following my astro blahs and have a good memory will probably recognize the term “finger of God”. We had one show up in the last solar eclipse. For those of you who are new or just forgetful like me, a Yod is an astrological formation in the shape of a very thin triangle, made by two quincuxed planets (planets that are 150 degrees apart) in trine with each other. It functions like a holy lazer beam. And in any planetary chart, it hints at where attention should be placed, or where the key can turn the lock of your dilemma. In this specific case, the Yod in our full moon forecast is made by a combo of Neptune (retrograding) in Pisces, and our good ol’ friend Saturn (retrograde). Together, the quest for a spiritual center, and the need to cast off your chains of oppression join hands to point at the North Node. Also known as the point of purpose within any natal or planetary chart.

Guess where the North Node is?

It’s chilling right next to Mercury in Leo. Based on which degree of Leo the North Node is in for the full moon, our key out is using small acts of physical self-care as a means to connect with the spiritual worlds. There is no difference between the two worlds except within our perception. The highest is in the lowest and the lowest is in the high. Little steps of self-authority will bring you far on this “Green Corn Moon”. And like the people of old who caught sturgeon in abundance during August, you too will catch the flow of this Pisces full moon if you begin viewing the unfinished details of your life as a mystic ritual. This energy would be best used to refine our strategies, and pick out what doesn’t work for us anymore. Because the solar days may still be here, we’re still bathed in light, but winter is approaching. Don’t let the Earth Grand Trine relax you TOO MUCH into dreamy Piscean escapism. The next battery of astrological trials are going to sneak up before you know it. But do enjoy the break while you attend to yourself. You’ve totally earned it!

Purify and release yourself by treating your body with the same attention you give to your spirit and vice versa. Reap the harvest you worked so hard for in the material planes in order to find the sustenance you need for your soul…or eliminate the fields which cannot support your dreams anymore.

Our final insights into this full moon come from those fixed stars over yonder. Their names are Sadalmelik and Fomalhaut. While Sadalmelik is closely positioned nearest the moon, it’s smaller than Fomalhaut, and might get drowned out depending on what your natal chart looks like. But the two stars are usually very fortunate in nature, bestowing power, luck, and success in any magic or business deals done underneath their influence. The two of them can also lend a huge boost to your creativity! That self-care I mentioned previously might come in the package of delving into a hobby, going back to meditation exercises, or finishing a project that you’ve been putting off. Especially if the project happens to be yourself in disguise. In this way, we can blend the spiritual, and the physical worlds. And experience the renaissance we seek in our lives.

Side note: For those of you who work with angels or study the Kabbalah, Fomalhaut is the official star of Archangel Gabriel. They’re the genderfluid messenger of God. Gabriel is also responsible for giving the Prophet Mohamed coffee (or a “dark brew” says the legend) in order for him to stay up all night and finish the pages of the Koran. Archangel Gabriel is also the chieftain of Pisces and the element of water, helps with pregnancy and any kind of conception whether it be literal or otherwise, and helps artists/writers/teachers/journalists project their message. I predict that the full moon will see an outpouring of creativity or the sending/reception of very important communications between people/social groups. On a global scale, we’ll see important communications occur between states of government. I’d petition Archangel Gabriel to help you tap into your creativity and thus invoke the subtler energies of Sadalmelik to give you fortune. The star Sadalmelik is classically nicknamed “the Luck of the King” after all!

To wrap this up, the kite paradox gift wrapped, and presented to us for this full moon is a lot less complex than our monkey minds would have us believe. The deep spiritual is in the surface material. One cannot be without the other. And we would do well to purify our souls in self-care as long as we resist the urge to drown in it. Our creativity can be a powerful tool for transformation or a message that can part the seas. But it needs to be balanced with attention to the here and now or else it’s just illusionary and secretly entrapping. Just because the Earth Grand Trine is giving us a water break doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. There’s four more months of 2018 retrograde fun to go! And some more squares with discipline daddy Saturn. So take advantage of this time while your opposition is sleeping to use the magic of this full moon and snag that inspiration while the inspiration is going hot.

Anything that you give birth to, release, discover, or say on August 26th will carry over/program into Mars direct the very next day. The planet of action, vitality, and war finally stops stopping. We’ll see the sprouting buds of activity and motion in our personal lives/the goals which these retrogrades have halted in the weeks after. Probably well into the second week of September. So magic big with Pisces, act in the small details with Virgo. People often forget that Virgo is represented by the Magician card in the tarot. It’s a sign of spirituality and otherworldliness as much as Pisces is. That’s why they’re opposites yet reflective of each other.

Peer into Galadriel’s mirror.

Use the message you receive creatively to improve your daily life.

Grab onto that “kite” in the sky and let it take your body somewhere magical. Verse Shift into your best potential future with it.
