The idea that the evil will be punished by the universe is a tool used by those in power to prevent the oppressed from rising up.
Thanks to cultural Christianization, it’s hard for people to stop thinking in terms of “turning the other cheek.” This idea has infiltrated even pagan circles. The more new-agey, the worse it is. The pagan community is full of people with the idea that if you harm someone, it’s never justified, and you’ll pay for it. What about the person who harmed you? Are you trusting that they’ll pay for it? How do you know you’re not the punishment they’re supposed to get?
I say I’m going to curse someone, and I get a ton of assholes in my @s saying things like, “I hope you get everything you’re cursing on someone else! You deserve everything you get!” Doesn’t matter if I’m cursing a babykiller or something, I’m the evil one. I should trust the universe to take care of him.
If that’s how the world works, then why do we arrest, prosecute, and imprison people? Surely God or the universe will give them what’s coming to them. If that sounds ridiculous to you, so should the idea that we shouldn’t ever curse people or we shouldn’t make them pay.
If that were true, we would need no courts, because murderers and thieves would all find themselves punished by the universe. Good people wouldn’t be poor and starving while the rich wallow in food and cash.
Don’t rise up against the lord who takes all your grain. He’ll get his punishment in the next life. Stay in your place in your class, because you deserve to be there and your betters deserve to be treated better, because God put you there. Of course I deserve this, I have a divine right to rule. God takes care of all injustices, and bad people will be punished in the next life, so don’t you worry your pretty head about punishing them now. What goes around comes around. Threefold law. New-age karma.
Fuck. That.
This idea on a cultural level was literally devised to keep you oppressed, keep you taking the beatings. Don’t fall for it.
