thoughts on Maya Gonzalez lecture.

It’s a western perspective to think of gender/sexualities as something to analyze and pick apart. Gender/sexuality is circles, gender/sexuality is nature. If someone identifies in a way you disagree with, why? Why do the words that feel good to them bother you? Is it an us/them binary thought? Question yourself. Do the words that they use for themselves cause you harm out of maliciousness? Or is it a personal wound that you are pushing onto their experience? Food for thought.

I’m really struggling with something.

Psa tw assault

Im engaged to a wonderful cis straight man. He’s supportive, compassionate, kind. We are connected.

Context: I am polyamorous and he is monogamish

As I meet other people with no expectations, I realize that I dont feel comfortable engaging with cis/straight men unless someone I know vouches for them. I have been assaulted before as an older teen and just recently in August. It’s hard for me to find sex enjoyable anymore.

I’m bi but I’ve always like other genders than cis/straight men more. But now it seems like I’m really only attracted to very few of these straight cis men?

I’m unsure where this leaves me, honestly. I know I can like any different amount of genders differently and still be bi, but I’m starting to get less and less interested in these people besides my fiancé.

So, you just saw a post from a TERF. Now what?

If you are trans, nonbinary, or any sexuality/gender that that user was being bigoted against— take a deep breath.

Sit in yourself and find your center. Search for it in your body, were the feeling of truth and love is strongest. Mine is usually in my chest or throat.

Keep breathing and feeling. Acknowledge how much the post made you feel. The anger, the hurt, the disappointment, the disgust, they are important and should be felt. You have every right to feel them. Let them flow through you and let them go if they are causing you harm. Say them out loud, pray, write them down, paint them out.

If you are scared or feel overwhelmed, I would encourage you to get that out in healthy ways as well. For me that means reaching out to others and being comforted by them. Find something that works for you.

Repeat what you know to be true—that the TERF was wrong, that they are bigoted, that there is a community that loves and accepts you.

There will always be people that love you and will stand with you. Your back is never exposed.

If you want to engage with the TERF, then make sure you are in an emotional place that is healthy. If it is going to hurt or upset you, I’d recommend that you let someone else with more energy/spoons than you handle it.

Gender Essentialism and witchcraft

Gender Essentialism: The
belief of there being a fixed essence to women. Women’s essence is assumed to
be universal and is generally identified with those characteristics viewed as
being specifically feminine.

I believe that people can
be anything, that there are no fixed traits that are male or female, or
masculine and feminine. Aggression, compassion, those are human traits that
anyone can have.

I believe in more than a
binary of genders. I believe in a spectrum of genders, each important and
valid.

I believe magic is for
people. Any people. It whispers and screams from the oceans and the trees.

I believe that magic is
open to all genders. It’s not exclusionary.

The cosmic feminine, the great
mother, the idea that there is something special about being a woman, that there
is a better spiritual connection that comes with it, bothers me as someone who
is femme but not a woman. It cuts me out of the equation, it bars me from
magic.

I understand that this sprouts
from the patriarchy and male dominated god-forms, but to exclude anyone who is
not a woman seems counterproductive to me.

I understand the shared
pain of women. I know that is open to femmes and woman-aligned people, but to
exclude others because of their un-feminine-ness? To say, we have the key to
the universe, but you cannot get in? That there is something better about being
a woman than anyone else? I think it’s harmful.

It’s more than being
balanced, because balance is a binary. The whole system needs to be shaken up
and undone.
